When James was growing up on a small family farm in Bentonville, AR he fell in love with the idea of raising and caring for animals. He had many pets but most of all his determination to raise the best quality Limousin cattle is what drove him towards success. “I remember a trip to the U of A as a kid with my dad where he took me to meet a professor in the agriculture department. When I met the man he asked me if there was anything in particular I wanted to learn. I said tell me everything you know about raising cattle.” After that meeting James continued on his journey to learn everything there was to know about raising cattle. He maintained an active membership in 4-H exhibiting his cattle at local, regional and later on in his show career at national events. He studied every magazine and publication he could get his hands on and soaked in all the knowledge he could. After graduating high school he attended NEO A&M College in Miami, OK where he graduated on the dean’s honor roll with an Associates of Applied Science in Farm and Ranch Management and also met his future wife Amy.

Over the course of James’ life his desire to raise the best cattle possible steered him into the commercial poultry farming industry to use that as an investment vehicle to purchase the land necessary to maintain his small cow herd all while continuing to build on the generations of genetics from the original show heifer he purchased in 1992. “Since I bought that first heifer in 1992, I have never not owned cattle. I wouldn’t know how to live without them” are the words you will hear James say if you spend much time with him at all.

James owned the commercial farming operation from 2007-2021 when he had an opportunity to shift gears into the agri-tourism industry. You will notice Sunset Mountain Nudist Camp is located on a working cattle farm and it’s safe to say as long as James and Amy own it there will be cattle nearby. I will now let them tell you why Sunset Mountain Brand Nude Beef is the best you will ever have! 

 

I guess it’s fitting that naturist people would raise nude beef! What we mean by that is there are no additives, and nothing hidden with our beef. To get the best quality product you have to have a solid value system combined with great management practices. Here is a list of some things we adhere to:

  1. Here at Sunset Mountain we do our best to be as environmentally friendly as we can be. We try to limit the use of pesticides and herbicides to promote the healthiest environment for the cattle as possible.

  2. We partner with the Arbor Day Foundation and plant trees as often as possible. Anytime we clear land for cattle grazing or recreational use we try to offset the environmental impact by planting as many trees as we can in other areas of the property. 

  3. We can be found on the Monarch Butterfly Waystation Registry. By diversifying the types of plants and trees we have on the property we can help maintain the beauty of Sunset Mountain and promote a healthy environment for every creature, here and abroad.

  4. We don’t raise purebred Limousin cattle anymore but we do try to maintain a strong Limousin influence in our cattle for the breeds’ lean meat characteristics.

  5. We try to implement the safest handling practices with the friendliest habitat for the cattle and not have to use antibiotics in our herd, but if we do, we will be happy to disclose that information and work with our buyers to provide the best experience with the best product available.

  6. We support locally and co-op owned businesses when purchasing our feedstuffs and supplies for the cattle.
     

With 30 plus years of experience and genetic selection we know we have the cattle that produce the best meat possible and you can purchase these calves off of our cows at weaning time. We can haul them straight to the local processing facility for you where the transition from pasture to plate has been streamlined and these animals never have a chance to be stressed out. Our calves are treated with the utmost respect and humane handling practices known to man. Creating a delicacy like you have never experienced. Once we deliver them for you to the processing plant you just call and tell them how you want it packaged and when they are finished you go pick up your meat up at your convenience. If you don’t like the idea of veal we have an option for you as well. You can buy these same calves from us, take possession of them and raise them for whatever purpose best fits your needs.
